the Weerter forest

”Red deer are found in the Weerterbos”.

Reason why the AVP team visited the ”Weerterbos” during rutting season.

Opposite the ”Daatjes Hoeve” is an entrance to a rutting place.

In November 2005 some 15 red deer were released.

Mr Spiertz, nature lover and photographer, knows exactly where to look for them.

In the morning haze a younger stag stands right in the middle of the path.

The fences will be removed in due time, so that the Red Deer can roam free in nature.

The ”Weerterbos” is located between the provinces Noord Brabant and Limburg. It is a mixed forest, where lots of streams as ”Oude Graaf” and the ”Aa” meander through an area of 615 hectares. The ”Frontier church” dates back to the time when Roman Catholics were tolerated to secretly have the summons in open air.

Roe deer and red deer are hidden in the forest.

Loud roaring emitted by the red deer. Coaxing the deer follows the hinds. Competition is fiercely attacked.

Augustijn Video Productions (AVP) captured the atmosphere of the rutting season, offered by the inviting nature of the ”Weerterbos”.
