Tourists kill wildebeest

Early February is the time in the south east Serengeti when 400,000 wildebeest are born in a time span of only 2-3 weeks.

Wildlife filmmaker Ko Augustijn and his team of Augustijn Video Productions (AVP) is in Ndutu to film the wildebeest giving birth.

For hours the pregnant wildebeest is looking for an appropriate place to give birth, pursued by the increasing number of vehicles with tourists.

When she can no longer postpone the delivery, the cow drops the calf.  Under loud cheering, applauding and clapping hands by the tourists.

Disturbed by the noise the wildebeest got into a panic and ran amuck, including the mother who just gave birth.

The new born remains helplessly behind in the high grass. The doom of the calf was sealed.

Murdered by tourists!
