Motherhood
Orphan elephants are fostered by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi. Larger elephants are held in Ithumba and Voi.
Behind the screens was filmed for Friends of the Elephant to show how the elephants are prepared for their return to the wild. Enthusiastic they greet the wild elephants. Together they run through the bush and are splashing in the water during their mud bath. A dust bath colours the area red.
We witness how Natumi returns wounded to the stockade in Voi, after she was shot at with arrows. Large amounts of snares are removed by the ”de-snaring team”.
Daphne Sheldrick leads you through the film and emphasizes the importance of elephants for future generations.
Thanks to donations of the foster parents the orphans are offered a future.
